HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fans of fast machines and innovative sealing solutions can get their fix of both at this week’s Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, courtesy of an exhibit hosted by Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. that features a red, white and blue 2011 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle and the LKS™ High PV Seal.
“Our LKS seal provides up to 150% more service life in harsh oilfield environments”
Bal Seal, an established provider of sealing solutions for the oilfield, says it’s using the RR – currently considered to be the fastest production 1000cc two-wheeler on planet Earth – to emphasize the “ultimate performance and innovative design” of its LKS High PV Seal for high pressure, high velocity applications.
"Our LKS seal provides up to 150% more service life in harsh oilfield environments," Bal Seal Territory Manager and OTC exhibit staffer Mark Maloney explains, "and it has a great deal in common with the new model BMW. Both embody progressive design, and both are engineered to provide the highest levels of performance under the most demanding conditions.”
A multi-component seal consisting of a Canted-coil™ spring-energized, graphite reinforced PTFE seal jacket, a PEEK anti-extrusion element and a metal locking ring, the LKS is designed to provide increased service life in pump systems, top drives, rotary steerables and LWD/MWD tools. According to the company, the LKS has been lab and field tested to outperform and outlast other more costly, less efficient seal types, and its unique material combination can help OEMs dramatically increase equipment uptime.
Jim Vagas of Gulf Coast BMW in Houston worked with Bal Seal to bring the ultra-fast sport bike to OTC. He calls the pairing of the two high-performance products “very effective,” and adds that the seal manufacturer’s use of an “acid green metallic” 2010 RR model during the official launch of the LKS at last year’s show had attendees “all revved up.”
The S 1000 RR, which began commercial production in 2010, is touted by its manufacturer as “one of the most potent, sophisticated and lightest sport bikes ever unleashed.” It boasts 193 horsepower, a maximum speed of more than 125 mph, and acceleration from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds. Last year alone, it clinched Cycle World magazine’s coveted “Best Superbike,” and Motorcyclist magazine’s “Motorcycle of the Year” awards.
Bal Seal's LKS High PV Seal and a variety of other sealing, connecting, conducting and shielding solutions for oilfield equipment will be on display alongside the BMW motorcycle in booth #3605 at OTC 2011. The show runs Monday, May 2nd through Thursday, May 5th at the Reliant Center. For more details about the show, visit http://www.otcnet.org/2011/.
